For Americans Who Wish to Study in Spain

The American Embassy is not the best source for information for studying in Spain. If you are currently a student, you should consult the appropriate office at your school or university first. You may also wish to contact the Spanish Ministry of Education:

You might also wish to write the Spanish Embassy in Washington, D.C. They can also explain visa requirements. Their address is:

A foreign student wishing to study in a Spanish secondary school must provide proof of qualifications by taking the following steps:

  1. You must have your transcripts notarized.

  2. Take the notarized documents to a local clerk of courts to have the notary's credentials certified (this step is not always required)

  3. You must then submit the notarized transcript and diploma to the appropriate address in the state where your school is located, with a covering letter requesting a "Hague Apostille"

  4. .
  5. Once you have obtained the "Hague Apostille" you must submit your transcript and diploma to the Spanish Ministry of Education requesting an "instancia de convalidación de estudios no-universitarios."
